WORKSHOP ON CONSTRAINTS OF CERTIFICATION TO SMALL BUSINESSES, WITH PARTICULAR RELEVANCE TO DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

The purpose of the workshop,held on the 30^thSeptember 1999 in Hamburg, was to discuss the specific project proposals ("titles") identified in a pre-project report entitled Certification of forest products for small businesses: improving acces-issues and options.

The aims of the workshop were to:

Determine whether or not the report had correctly identified the problems faced by small businesses.
Determine whether or not the report had correctly identified the possible solutions (and identify other solutions).
Develop and prioritise the proposals made in the report.
Identify institutions and individuals interested in undertaking research to improve access to certification for small businesses.
Facilitate development of specific research proposals.

The workshop participants were selected on the basis of their interest and involvement in certification of small businesses and the problems associated with it.
