RESEARCHER IN AMAZON FOREST
DYNAMICS

Applications are invited for a full-time Research
Fellow at the University of Leeds School of
Geography to work full-time. The successful
candidate will co-ordinate a network of Amazon
forest permanent plots, and analyse the results
as a contribution to a new Framework V EU-funded project 'The future of the Carbon sink in
Amazonia'.
The research fellow will be involved in all
stages of the research, including collaborative
fieldwork in permanent forest plots with
colleagues in Amazon countries, statistical
analysis, and writing up of the results.
Applicants should hold a first degree in a
relevant discipline such as Ecology or Biology,
together with a Masters or Ph.D. in a tropical
forest -related field. Proven experience of
ecological research in the tropics and
communication skills in Spanish or Portuguese
and English are highly desirable.
Salary scale and range. Research Fellow
1A, appropriate to age and experience.
Spine 4 to 6 (= Grade 1 to 3), approximately
GBP 16,286 to 18,185.
Start date: 1 April 2000 or as soon as
possible thereafter, to 31 December 2001.
