FACE
The FACE Foundation (Forest Absorbing Carbondioxide Emission) was created by the Dutch Electricity Generating Board) FACE was given the remit 'to bring about afforestation in areas where this is desirable, with appropriate forest and timber species, for the least possible costs and under socially acceptable conditions, to compensate wholly or partly for the carbon dioxide emission from power stations in the Netherlands.' To this end, FACE contributes financially to the (re)afforestation of about 150,000 ha worldwide. FACE is attempting to gain as much experience as possible in the planting and management of sustainable forest systems in areas that differ greatly in terms of the reasons for deforestation and also with regard to socio-economic circumstances. More information on its current projects is available at http://www.facefoundation.nl/.
