About every two weeks participants receive a summary of the findings of some recent study conducted at CIFOR or by others, along with information regarding how they can obtain a full copy of the study. Recent topics have included: the impact of structural adjustment programs on forests, road construction in forested areas, timber certification programs in Europe, and economic criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management, among others.
The mailing list is not an open discussion group, but CIFOR does invite comments about the materials it posts and ocassionally distributes them to list members.
If you are interested in joining the list, free of charge, please send a message to: David Kaimowitz at < ahref="mailto:d.kaimowitz@cgnet.com">d.kaimowitz@cgnet.com with your full name, email address, and institutional affiliation.
The catalogues, containing almost 2,500 documents in 10 languages from around the world represent one of the largest collections of their kind on both participation and community wildlife management.
The PLA catalogue includes materials on all major aspects of participatory approaches with an emphasis on Africa, Asia and South America, and the CWM collection covers case studies, discussion papers and research reports on the myths and realities of community-based wildlife management.
The on-line facility is a key resource for students and practitioners of PLA and those interested in community approaches to wildlife management and is a further development of the Resource Centre's information delivery services.
The Resource Centre is part of a network of 15 similar organisations across Africa, Asia, South America and Europe which exchange and disseminate PLA material and seeks to address the widening gap between information-rich and information-poor countries.
The on-line facility can be accessed at

The information in the Tree Suppliers Directory was compiled through a questionnaire sent to a large number of seed suppliers all over the world. The directory focuses on tree species of importance in the tropics, but information on seed suppliers of species from other regions has been included as well.
The directory is available in book format, on CD-ROM and will shortly be made available via the Internet (www.cgiar.org/icraf).

The central objective of the Tropical Rainforest Policy is: 'to encourage the conservation of the tropical rainforest through balanced and sustainable land and forest use, with a view to halting the current rapid process of deforestation along with other environmental damage and degradation'. This is closely linked to the objectives of the IUCN - the conservation and sustainable use of ecosystems and biodiversity.
These funds are especially meant to support projects in the field of conservation and sustainable management of tropical rainforests, set up and implemented by NGO's, preferably from rainforest countries.
A number of criteria have been drafted for allocation of funds, as well as a format for project proposals. Project proposals have to comply with these criteria. Furthermore the programme will look for an balanced division of funds between regions and priority themes. The deadlines to receive proposals are 1 January, 1 May and 1 September.
