EC funding sources for forest research in the tropics, subtropics and Mediterranean
(focus on the first Call for Proposals of EC-DGRES, 6th FP)
By ETFRN and UK-DFID-FRP

Thematic access to the calls

The FP6 is composed of three main Programs:

  1. Program 1: Focussing and Integrating the European Research Area (ERA)
  2. Program 2: Structuring the ERA
  3. Program 3: Strengthening the foundation of the ERA

The most important funding opportunities for forest research in the present first call of FP6 all fall under the first program 'Focussing and Integrating the European Research Area'. They are:

A. Priority 6.3. Global Change and Ecosystems

B. Special Program 8.1. Policy-oriented Research

C. Special Program 10.1. International Cooperation - Developing Countries (INCO-DEV)

There are three other funding sources within FP6 which may be relevant to (forest) researchers:

1. Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SME), deadlines: 29 April 2003 (first stage) and 27 November 2003

2. Co-ordination activities (ERA-NET) deadlines: 3 June 2003, 2 March 2004, 5 October 2004, etc.

3. Human Resources and Mobility (Marie Curie), for deadlines see second table in ETFRN overview

And another EC funding source is the EuropeAid Cooperation Office: Programme on Environment in Developing Countries & Programme on Tropical Forests and other Forests in Developing Countries, deadline 9 March 2004.

Under these pages you will find all the information which is specific for the relevant themes mentioned above. You will find per theme a general overview of the whole theme, a summary for those areas within the theme which are relevant for forest research, the specific work programme, the call for proposals and the guide for proposers.

Note: The full call text for all calls, except for Human Resources and Mobility (Marie Curie), is the same for all calls!
FP 6 in brief is the same for all calls, including Marie Curie.

The guidelines on proposal evaluation procedures as well as the guidelines for evaluators are not yet available at the time of publication of the CD Rom, but will be published on the ETFRN website by the time they are available.
